Mel's Keeping Active
GHMBA's Mel McKay has been keeping us updated on her six-week journey through the Active My Way program. The idea is to get Geelong's office workers away from their desks and stepping their way around the region.
Geelong’s ever changing weather has caused a challenge reaching my step goal each day this week. I’m ashamed to say that one day I didn’t even reach my step count due to bad weather and pure laziness. Instead, I chose to snuggle up on the couch with my children watching never ending episodes of Mickey Mouse rather than going out into the pouring rain and drenching myself so I could get another 2000 steps.
Prior to this I was tracking really well and earned a badge for getting active outdoors by taking the family down to the beach to look in rock pools and have a nice leisurely stroll along the beach cliffs at Point Lonsdale. I also popped on the treadmill at my parent’s, whilst my son asked, ‘Why don’t Grandma and Grandpa go outside for a walk like us?” and Grandpa responded, “I like to watch TV whilst walking.” He now thinks it’s cool and we should have one too.
I’m still walking the extra few blocks to my car and this wet weather hasn’t enticed me to park closer, but it has deterred me on a couple of afternoons from walking along the Waterfront from fear of ending up in the bay from a gust of wind. Hopefully, during this upcoming week I will be more active, with the weather report looking good and a trip to SupaTramp booked in, which is sure to get the heart pumping and the steps increasing…
