What A Woman
Every day, in a myriad of ways, women across the Greater Geelong region are showing us what equality, inclusion and respect for women means through their work – paid and unpaid.
And each year, as part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day, the City of Greater Geelong presents the Women in Community Life Awards, to pay tribute to those women who are getting on with the job of making the world a better place.
The City’s General Manager Community Life, Linda Quinn, said the awards, which are an initiative of the City's Women in Community Life Advisory Committee, were a great way to recognise the contribution of women in the local community.
“Greater Geelong is fortunate to have so many amazing, highly skilled and influential women leaders,” said Ms Quinn.
“They impact the lives of the whole community and the awards acknowledge, celebrate and show appreciation of their work.
The awards include two new categories for 2017, with nominations open until Monday, 6 February.
The categories are:
- First Nations Women in Community Life - supported by Christine Couzens MP, Member for Geelong
- Women in Community Life - supported by Women's Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West
- Women in Community Life For Human Rights and Gender Equality - supported by Barwon CASA and Minerva Community Services
- Women in Community Life Living with a Disability - supported by the National Disability Insurance Agency
A formal award ceremony will take place at an International Women’s Day event in Geelong, Friday, 3 March 2017.
The winner of each category will receive a prize including a Wathaurong glass plaque and a cheque for $500.
If you know a woman who keep the wheels of our community turning - and we all do - why not applaud their dedication? Nominations and more information can be found on the Women in Community Life web page here
